A convertible mechanic's creeper, from hackathon idea to a prototype grant

Mechanics strain their backs switching between lying under a vehicle and sitting beside it. I led a three-person team and designed the mechanism that converts one creeper between the two.

One mechanism, two working positions

I designed the converting mechanism: motor-assisted, it moves one creeper quickly between the lying and the seated working position.

Finalist, prototype grant, design patent

The concept reached the final of the Gujarat Industrial Hackathon 2019 and was presented to company executives; Fig. 1 is the organiser's certificate from the finale. At the Student Open Innovation Challenge 2019 we demonstrated the design and a scaled prototype, and received a prototype grant.

I filed a design patent for the mechanism.
